The Co. Armagh Milk Cup Association was founded in 1991 when a number of people involved in schoolboy and youth soccer in the county were approached and asked to select a squad of U/16 players to compete in the 1992 Milk Cup Premier competition. This was the first year that teams representing their counties participated in the tournament. The Milk Cup Organising Committee introduced this initiative which was aimed at improving professionalism amongst the teams competing from the host country. In 1998 the county initiative was further extended with the introduction of teams at Junior U/14 level. The N.Ireland Milk Cup tournament , held annually in the north west of the province has developed to become the most prestigious underage tournament within both Great Britain and Ireland . It attracts youth teams from some of the Major football traditions across the world such as Manchester United, Newcastle , Everton, Ajax , Grasshopper Zurich, Bayern Munich, Bronby and national teams such as Brazil , Chile , Uruguay and Japan. The late Dick Craig, a stalwart in his commitment to youth soccer in his native Lurgan and indeed the county made him an automatic choice as the first Co. Armagh chairman. The current Chairman is Alan Emerson M.D of Norman Emerson and Sons Ltd. The County Armagh Associations primary objective is to give as many young footballers in the county the opportunity to demonstrate their skills against top quality opposition and to do so in a professional environment. |
